Volunteers

Without dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers, activemediation could not offer the professional quality of service that has been built up over the years, and this quality of service we seek to maintain. Our volunteers find the mediation process challenging and fulfilling, as they see disputants sort out their differences in a positive, lasting way.

What can we offer?

Comprehensive training in conflict management and mediation skills, the opportunity to make use of new or enhanced skills, and regular opportunities to meet a variety of other people. Travel expenses incurred working on cases are reimbursed.

The role of the mediator is to create a safe environment where disputants can discuss the issues affecting them, know that what they say will be listened to and that they will be assisted in finding a mutual way forward for the future.

What are we looking for?

No previous experience is necessary, but we are looking for volunteers who can deal with people who may be feeling upset, vulnerable, angry or distressed, can be patient, objective and non-judgemental about other people's problems and situations, and can work with a wide range of people from different cultures, age groups and backgrounds. A volunteer mediator will need to keep basic records of cases. These records will be sent to the office once a case is closed.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer mediator and can commit to the 40 hour training programme, or would like further information, please contact us.
